I finally succeeded, after many failed attempts, to boot the Haiku OS from HDD on my antique Acer 5315 - 202G16MI laptop with Legacy Bios. The main credit goes to the official instructions that may be found by following this link: https://www.haiku-os.org/get-haiku/installation-guide/. But for my particular case the fix was by making some changes by the way I have set up my HDD, as below.
I used my full HDD drive to install Haiku OS (haiku-r1beta5-x_64-anyboot) by creating two partitions.
First step form was to delete all the exiting partitions leaving only free space.
Second step was to set the Partition Map.
Select the proper drive.
Use the DriveSetup menu from upper left side.
DISK > empty space > Intel Partition Map
Third step was to create the partitions.
First partition (I used all the free space less 19 MB):
Partition > Create BE File System (marked Active partition) - leaving 19 MB free space just to be sure
Partition > Format BE File System
Second partition:
Repeat the same for the 19 MB free space.
Install Haiku OS on the first partition.
Because the installer does not write the boot sequence on HDD it has to be done by user after the installation is performed.
Run Boot Manager and write the MBR to the only available option leaving all entries default. Reboot and choose to boot from the Haiku OS option (in blue) ignoring the second one in red.
That's how it worked for me.
I never thought that my antique laptop can move move so fast like it is a new machine. Everything works fine and I am happy to use the amazing Haiku OS.
